Engineering SchoolSo, you want to be an engineer? Well, you’re in for the difficult battle of schooling that’s seemingly impossible, problems that are challenging, and projects that defy the laws of what seems to be possible. But the bragging rights of being an engineer are well worth these issues. Yes, you need to work, but you will gain a thrilling and high-paying career as a result. Types of EngineeringYou can probably be an engineer of just about anything, but here are the main categories of engineering that most people understand.
What do half of these mean? Well, you’re the one with engineer aspirations, so you can probably figure it out. Do the MathThe bulk of what you’re going to be doing when you’re studying to be an engineer is math. Lots of it. You will need to learn how to explain the world and its limitations through complex problems and equations. Your first few math classes will seem to be impossible – and those are just the ones to weed out the wimps. Once you get into the ‘real’ classes, that’s when the real math fun begins. If you’re not someone who’s interested in doing math problem after math problem, you might want to sign up for something easier. Like English. You can take engineering classes online or in the traditional school setting, depending on the resources available to you in your area. While the basic program is a Bachelor’s Degree program, most engineers will opt for the Master’s Program, which will give them a M.S. in their chosen field of engineering. The current income outlook for engineers is strong as well. Most of the engineer fields will garner about a $50,000 salary the first year and rise each subsequent year. The more specialized the field of engineering you are in, the more likely you are to increase your earning potential. But you will have to sit through that math class. And you will need to do your homework. |
